I never thought I'd say this, but Tim Cook needs to go. The only difference is they include older usb 3.0 ports. You do know that there are other laptops with thunderbolt 3/type-c that need new dongles (the last two xps 13 models have them).

Apple has literally undone all of steve jobs hard work unifying a hardware and software ecosystem that was just incredible in only 3 short years. Using my hands, not a keyboard and mouse to manipulate artwork and design It honestly has the very real possibility of changing how photographers and 3d work is done permanently. Same price, and it's like a giant, badass iPad with futuristic controls.

Where is the "brave wireless future" ? 5k thunderbolt display? mac pro refresh? Quad core 13 inch option? 32gb ram? They made the product-planning decision that that's not what the majority of MBP customers wanted. Every conceivable port, user-upgradeable everything, and 40 hour battery life. Imagine what Apple could include if they were given a 1.35", 5.9 lbs budget. It always comes at the expense of other features. Though the size of the power brick does annoy me. Can't say I"ve had that same feeling with my 4 year old MacBook Pro. Lugging around a laptop 10 years ago was a giant PITA. I understand your point - but when the improvements in size and weight come at the expense of other features, it's not necessarily a good thing to do it for its own sake. But that's what we would all be doing if you guys had your way since 2005, every year complaining "laptops are thin and light enough already, add more battery and more ports!" Have you carried such a laptop around recently? It's a giant pain in the a**. And those were some of the thinner and lighter laptops on the market. Think about it, as recently as 2005 Apple was selling laptops that were 1.35 inches thick and weighed 5.9 lbs. Lots of people are down on the Quest for Thinness, both in laptops and phones.

To put more than 16GB of fast RAM into a notebook design at this time would require a memory system that consumes much more power and wouldn't be efficient enough for a notebook.Ĭutting 25% of the battery-capacity compared to the previous model in the Quest for Thinness obviously forces you to cut power-usage wherever you can.

Schiller's answer: Thank you for the email. They just boned the execution of a touch-friendly software platform. (Ignoring the ergonomic disaster of using a Surface tablet as a laptop.) So in theory nothing is wrong conceptually or ergonomically with what Microsoft has done. And they support styluses for people who want to draw stuff or write things by hand. Laptops are best for stuff that requires a keyboard and precision control of a cursor, so they function as laptops.

So these 2-in-1 devices function as tablets. Touchscreens are best in tablets, where you don't have to have your arm up in the air to use them. I'll give Microsoft credit for trying to merge the touch and mouse/keyboard-driven paradigm with Windows 8, but we all know how that went over. You make a good point-I think people tend to forget about older Windows tablet-like devices where Gates himself was even trying to force usage of the desktop UI there, which wasn't a good fit, even using a stylus.Īpple learned a lot from seeing this, and hence the different UI paradigm for iOS devices.

Until Windows can compete with the huge selection of software designed specifically for multitouch interaction on iOS or even on Android you simply cannot claim that it is competitive in the tablet space. It's ridiculous to claim that Windows devices are primarily tablets given the sheer amount of time users spend in legacy apps that are not set up to allow for touch interaction.
